Why should your cheese shop offer cheese classes?
The number one reason: The more they know about a product, the more likely they are to buy it. Cheese classes lead to increased sales.
Here are a few more reasons:
- The same type of customer who will attend a cheese class will spend more per pound on cheese.
- During class, attendees will sample delicious cheeses, which they will buy again and again.
- Cheese classes make people happy — your customers will associate your store with fun, knowledge, and delicious cheese. And they'll tell their friends.
- It's a fantastic marketing tool. Your store will receive positive attention.
- You can charge "tuition" for these classes, and people will pay.
- Two of the top cheese shops in New York City have offered very successful cheese classes. The classes routinely fill up, and many attendees return again and again.
How do I know all this?
I taught a popular and successful five-month series of cheese classes at Zabar's, the venerable Upper West Side (Manhattan) food and housewares shop.
Some of my classes were English Farmhouse, Get Your Goat!, and The Pecorinos You Don't Know. I developed the curriculum, chose the cheeses, partnered with a local wine shop, and created handouts for each attendee to take home.
My teaching style is engaging, conversational, and informative. I am passionate about all things cheese, and my enthusiasm is contagious.
I received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees and Zabar's management. People had fun learning, and I had fun teaching them.
I can teach cheese classes for your store, too. Think of the benefits...
